Privacy policy

This policy explains how personal information is handled when you use this website (zahirmughal.com), and in particular when you send an enquiry through the contact form.

Last updated: July 2026

This policy applies to the website only. It does not cover Mr Mughal's clinical work within the NHS. Any care you receive, and the medical records that go with it, are managed separately by the NHS organisation providing that care, under its own data protection arrangements.

Who is responsible for your information

This website is run by Mr Zahir Mughal, Consultant ENT Surgeon. If you have any questions about this policy, or about how your information is handled, you can contact info [at] zahirmughal [dot] com.

What information is collected

When you send a message through the contact form, we collect the details you choose to give us: your name, your email address, your phone number (optional), the subject, and the content of your message.

As with any website, some limited technical information — such as your device's IP address — may be recorded in the server logs kept by our hosting provider. This is used to keep the site running and secure, not to identify you personally.

How your information is used

The information you provide is used for one purpose only: to read and respond to your enquiry. It is never sold, and it is not used for marketing or shared with anyone for advertising.

Our lawful basis for handling your enquiry is our legitimate interest in responding to a message you have chosen to send us. You are never required to provide any more information than you wish to.

Please do not send medical information

This website is not a way to obtain medical advice or to share clinical information. Please do not include symptoms, medical history or other health details in the contact form. If any such information is sent, it is treated with care and deleted once your enquiry has been dealt with. If you need medical help, please contact your GP, NHS 111, or in an emergency call 999.

Who else is involved

A small number of trusted providers help operate this site and handle your message on our behalf:

  • Netlify — hosts the website and processes contact-form submissions.
  • Google — enquiries are received and read in a Google (Gmail) mailbox.
  • Porkbun — provides the domain name and forwards email sent to the address above.

Some of these providers are based outside the UK, so your information may be transferred internationally; where that happens, appropriate safeguards are in place to protect it.

How long your information is kept

Enquiries and any related correspondence are kept for up to 12 months so that we can respond and follow up if needed, after which they are deleted — unless we are required to keep them longer to meet a legal obligation.

How your information is protected

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to keep your information secure. No method of sending information over the internet is ever completely secure, however, which is a further reason not to include sensitive personal or medical details in your message.

Cookies

This website does not use cookies for tracking, analytics or advertising, so there is no cookie banner. If this ever changes, this policy will be updated and your consent sought where required.

Links to other websites

This site links to other organisations — for example ENT UK, the General Medical Council, and academic profiles such as ORCID and Google Scholar. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and this policy does not apply to them.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information held about you;
  • ask us to correct information that is wrong, or to delete it;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how your information is used;
  • ask to receive your information in a portable format, where relevant; and
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, please email info [at] zahirmughal [dot] com.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how your information has been handled, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's independent regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page, with the revision date shown above. This policy was last updated in July 2026.
